Cake/Registry/Gift Table Banners

Materials & Costs:
4 sheets of felt $0.49/each (I've seen this done with burlap, I tried it with just fabric and it didn't work great)
1 roll of jute string $1.97
1 small bottle acrylic paint $1.97
Reusable 2" stencils $2.97
Stencil paint brushes 3.97
Mini Clothespins $2.14/24pk
Scissors
Ruler
Total Cost:  Around $20 for 3 banners

1. Cut your felt/fabric/burlap etc. into the appropriate size for your banner.  Our cake and registry tables are 30" round so I made 42" banners which worked out to rectangles that were 2.75" x 3" with 3" x 3" squares for the W's since they were for some reason wider than all of the other letters and wouldn't fit on the smaller pieces.

2. Using the stencil brush and stencils, dab the paint onto the felt/fabric/burlap shapes (I found that on felt, there is one side less fuzzier than the other and that works best for the paint side)
3. Once the paint has dried on all of your pieces (only takes a couple minutes since it doesn't go on very thick) you can start stringing them up on the jute.  I found that in order to make the pieces stay upright when you hang it, I had to push the clothespins down as far as they would go on the felt so it wasn't so 'top heavy'.

4. And there you have your banner!  Some tips that I learned: 1. a paper hole punch will not punch through fabric or felt and 2. pinking sheers will also not cut through felt...that was a disappointment but I'm happy with how they turned out overall :) Happy DIYing!
