Flower Girl Wand

Materials & Costs
6 craft dowels - pack of 16 $2.44 at Walmart
1 18"x21" fabric square - $2.00 at Walmart
1 18"x21" square of white tulle - $10 for a 9'x9' roll at Walmart, I have a TON left over
1 small felt circle (about 1.5" across) - I had this left over from my banners but I think its about $0.69/sheet at Michaels
Floral Tape - $1.19/roll at Walmart
Green 5/8" ribbon - This was left over too but I think it was around $2.50 for the roll
Hot Glue Gun & Glue - gun was $2.99 at Michaels, I think the glue was similarly priced

Total Cost: around $6.00 if you only count the amounts that I actually used, since I have uses for just about everything that was left over.

1. The tutorial I used for the flowers can be found here She did such a good job explaining that there's no point repeating it.
2. Below is the flower template I used, just for simplicity's sake so you don't have to go looking.  I made the large flower just under 7" across and the smaller one about 4".  To make my template, I copied the picture into word so that I could resize it and used heavy paper placed over the image on my computer to trace it, then cut it out.

3. I cut out an equal number of flowers from my fabric (which was really thin cotton) and the tulle.  Where she folds the flower into a petal in the tutorial, I placed a fabric flower 'good' side up and a tulle flower on top of it and folded them together.  Because they were both thin, the glue went all the way through to stick all the layers together.
4. Once your flower is complete, start on the 'stem' by wrapping floral tape around 6 craft dowels that are arranged in a sort of flower shape (1 in the middle, 5 around the outside).
5. Once its completely wrapped in floral tape, start the wrapping of the stem at the bottom by gluing the ribbon about an inch from the bottom and wrapping it under the bottom of the stem (put glue there too).  It was tricky but with a little glue and folding the ribbon under itself I managed to wrap the ribbon nicely around the bottom so you can't see the wooden dowels.
6. Keep wrapping all the way up the 'stem', putting a dab of hot glue every so often so it doesn't slip down.  When I got to the top, I just wrapped the ribbon a few times around just the top to keep it all secure and finished off with a dab of glue.
7. To make the ribbon tails, I just cut two equal lengths of ribbon and notched the ends.  I put a dab of hot glue on the top of the 'stem' and glued on the middle of the ribbon.  Repeat for the second ribbon length, slightly offsetting it from the other one.
8. To finish the wand, put a good sized blob of glue on top of your stem and affix it to the middle of the felt circle on your flower.  Fluff it all up and you're done!
